2. How it works
For our advertisers, Adsend is user-friendly and straightforward, but for their advertisements, it is one tough judge. It puts every job under the microscope and runs a series of probing tests to ensure everything is as it should be. This includes file creator, ink weight/density, percentage, color space and image resolution. We're always updating tests and adding new procedures, too. Needless to say, file issues won't go unnoticed when you use Adsend.
And when Adsend subjects your artwork to this, the most thorough of examinations, it doesn't need to be daunting as it does everything in real-time and all processes are automatic. No settings to adjust. No waiting around. Plus, Adsend is also able to test your artwork against the exact specifications of the destination publication so publishers love Adsend as well.
What's more, Adsend is so clever that when it finds a serious error, it won't allow the file to be sent until it's fixed, by you or by the system itself. That's good for publishers and good for you because we know
you really do want your hard work to look exactly the way you planned it to.
Some of the most common issues Adsend will alert you to are:
Total Area Coverage (TAC)
If there is too much CMYK on the same dot this will make ink consumption high on the printing press, which can lead to wet paper, longer drying times and ink transferring to the opposite page (set-off)
Low Resolution
A low-resolution photo, scan or logo will become pixelated and difficult to read when printed, reducing the effectiveness of the ad.
Type point size
If fonts are too small, printed ads can be difficult to read. This is particularly true of newsprint where the ink on the paper may bleed in to the type if it is very small.
PDF Version
PDFs higher than v1.3 are extremely complex and could cause issues when be prepared for printing (ripped).
